Car charger installation in Limerick

A home car charger in Limerick costs €1,000 to €1,500 fitted with a standard fit, including VAT, or €700 to €1,200 after the €300 SEAI grant. More than half of Limerick's homes were built before 1991, many in the city's big estates, so older fuse boards are common here, and the county's one-off houses have longer runs to the yard.

Match a charger to your car and your house

Four quick taps. Your plan builds up as you go: the charger that suits your car, the price range for your house, the grant and the time on site. Your number is only asked for at the end, if you want a fixed price.

A fully electric car, a charger on the house wall a few metres from a newer fuse board: €1,000 to €1,500 fitted, €700 to €1,200 after the €300 SEAI grant, including VAT.

Where does the car park at night?

This decides the grant, the cable route and the price.

How this is worked out

We start from what a 7 kW smart charger costs fitted in Ireland, including VAT, with a standard fit: the charger, its own circuit from the fuse board and up to 5 metres of cable. A solar-aware charger costs more. Then we add what installers charge for a longer cable run, a trench to a garage or post, and fuse board work on an older board. The SEAI home charger grant comes off the charger and fitting, never off the board or earthing work. It is an estimate to plan with, never a quote: the electrician prices your house after looking at it.

Homes in Limerick: driveways and fuse boards

88% of Limerick households live in a house and 12% in an apartment (Census 2022). 45% of homes are detached and 26% semi-detached. Most have a driveway at the front, where a charger on the house wall is a standard fit.

55% of Limerick homes were built before 1991, against 52% nationally, and 29% in 2001 or later. That's an older stock than average, so more boards here need meter tails, an earth bond or a new board before a charger goes on.

Public charging in Limerick

In 2025 Limerick had 117 public charge points at 38 locations, 67 of them fast (CSO). That's one public charge point for every 35 zero-emission cars taxed here, against 41 nationally, close to the national figure.

Planning and the council in Limerick

The SEAI grant and its rules are the same in every county: off-street parking at the home, with the charger and the work inside your boundary. A charging arm over a footpath is different. It needs the council's say first, a section 5 declaration (€80) or planning permission, from Limerick City and County Council.
