How carchargerinstallation.ie works

Who we are, who gets your request, and where our prices and rules come from.

Free, no obligation. One registered electrician prices it, not five.

How it works

We publish a price guide and plain explanations of the grant and the rules for home car chargers, and when you send the Charger match planner, we pass your answers to one Safe Electric registered electrician who covers your county. They price the job, fit the charger, certify it and deal with you directly. We are not SEAI or a government body.

Who gets your request

One electrician, not a list. We pass it to a Safe Electric registered electrician who covers your county and fits home chargers. Nothing is agreed until you accept their written price, and you're free to get other prices too.

Where our prices come from

Our price ranges are what home chargers cost fitted in Ireland, including VAT, from what installers charge for the charger, the cable run, digging and board work. We update them when prices move. They're estimates to plan with. Your price comes from the electrician after they've seen the house.

Where the rules come from

The grants from SEAI, the rules on registered electrical contractors from the Commission for Regulation of Utilities and Safe Electric, and the county figures from the CSO: cars by fuel and county, public charge points, and Census 2022 housing.

Match a charger to your car and your house

Four quick taps. Your plan builds up as you go: the charger that suits your car, the price range for your house, the grant and the time on site. Your number is only asked for at the end, if you want a fixed price.

A fully electric car, a charger on the house wall a few metres from a newer fuse board: €1,000 to €1,500 fitted, €700 to €1,200 after the €300 SEAI grant, including VAT.

Step 1 of 6

Where does the car park at night?

This decides the grant, the cable route and the price.

How this is worked out

We start from what a 7 kW smart charger costs fitted in Ireland, including VAT, with a standard fit: the charger, its own circuit from the fuse board and up to 5 metres of cable. A solar-aware charger costs more. Then we add what installers charge for a longer cable run, a trench to a garage or post, and fuse board work on an older board. The SEAI home charger grant comes off the charger and fitting, never off the board or earthing work. It is an estimate to plan with, never a quote: the electrician prices your house after looking at it.
